Biographies of Committee Members
Chair & Founder – Nuzha Ali

Nuzha is passionate about developing cohesive communities, where women represent a strong voice. She founded MWM in 2014 committed to empowering and supporting community resilience, through the capabilities of Muslim women.
She leads a national portfolio for Government with an aim of making the public healthier and reducing inequalities across the population by promoting healthier lifestyles. Her work was awarded a civil service Outstanding Achievement Award for Diversity and Inclusion this year.
A clinician with twenty five years of health management and academic experience at local, national and international levels coupled with Masters qualifications in Public Health and Management.
Vice Chair – Dr Emma Wiley

Emma graduated in medicine from the University of Cambridge in 2007, obtained a Masters in Clinical Microbiology in 2012 and works as a senior microbiology registrar and researcher.Special interests include medical education, medical IT and infection control.
Emma sits on the General Medical Council BME forum and executive committee of the British Islamic Medical Association and is founder and lead of 2 national projects.
Emma is a founding member of MWM, joining in 2015 in order to give muslim women in Merton a voice, inspire positive community action and challenge societal views on muslim women and their capabilities.
Treasurer – Sabah Sufi

Sabah joined MWM in June 2016. She is passionate about positively impacting society and changing the stereotype image of the Muslim woman. She believes that MWM fulfils that role in the community by actively contributing through local events. Her role involves coordinating various projects, securing sponsorship and website development.
A Business and Finance graduate; an avid cook, inspired silk painter, Sabah also volunteers and runs fundraising campaigns for a number of charities.
Sabah considers MWM to be a versatile platform for sharing knowledge and believes
that being active in the wider community she can live by “ do what you love and love what you do” ethos.
Membership Officer – Barbera Khan

Babera has been a member since March 2017 and her background is
teaching at the primary school level.
She enjoys contributing to community projects that MWM has been involved in, such as the Your Health Matters event and International Women’s Day.
Babera’s role with MWM initially began as a volunteer and has now progressed to working in the Committee to help maintain volunteer data and arrange volunteer get togethers…events and coffee mornings!
Project Officer – Aziza Dar

Aziza joined MWM in 2017. She began working in fundraising but has assisted in various MWM projects. Aziza has lived in Merton since 1981 and brought up her family in the borough.
Aziza worked as an IT professional from 1977 and worked at Merton Council for nearly 16 years. Aziza continued with education throughout her career completing an MBA in 2014. Since retiring from Merton Council, Aziza volunteered in Morden library and in MVSC Fayre and Square supporting young people with disabilities.
Aziza feels MWM is a platform for Muslim women to actively support the whole community at the grassroots level.
Secretary – Dr. Sanam Mallick

Sanam has a special interest in local community’s health & well-being and believes being affiliated to MWM will provide opportunities to achieve a goal of promoting good mental & physical health.
She is represents MWM at the Merton Clinical Commissioning Group – Patient Engagement Group & is also a member of our Tooting Muslim and Christian women’s reflection group.
Sanam is training to be a GP. She moved to UK in 2012 from Pakistan. She is training to interview students applying for St. George’s medical College. She is also a trustee for a much respected healthcare charity.
